Abstract:
We report the classification of two optical transients (Type Ia SNe).

We report the classification of two optical transients observed on 2024 October 24. Observations were performed on the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) at El Roque de Los Muchachos (La Palma, Spain) using the ALFOSC instrument as part of the 2024 NOT observing school at the University of Turku.

Classifications were done using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007 2007ApJ...666.1024B). AT 2024yql is reproduced well by a SN Ia spectrum (normal or 91T-type) a few days before peak brightness, while AT 2024zao is consistent with a normal SN Ia about 10 d before peak.

The redshift of AT 2024zao is based on an SDSS spectrum of its host galaxy (SDSS J034611.76-061510.0), and is consistent with the SNID fit. The redshift of AT 2024yql is based on the best SNID fits, as no narrow host-galaxy lines are clearly visible in the spectrum.
