TNS Classification Report No. 543 [ 2016TNSCR.872....1C ]
Date Received (UTC): 2016-11-02 16:24:53 Sender: Morgan Fraser
Group: NUTS2
G. Cannizzaro (SRON), M. Fraser (University College Dublin), S. Benetti, A. Pastorello, N. Elias-Rosa (Padova), M. Stritzinger report/s a classification of object: SN 2016hnk
Type: SN IaRedshift: 0.016
Remarks: The spectrum is relatively red, with strong lines dominated by the Ca NIR triplet, OI 7774, and SiII 6355. The minimum of the SiII line is at a velocity of 10,000 km/s. We were unable to obtain a good match to any supernova templates using SNID. The closest match to the SN using GELTAO appear to be 1991bg-like sub-luminous Type Ia SNe around maximum light, with possible additional HeI lines. The He line lines are at a somewhat lower velocity of 6500 km/s, compared to SiII. We note that the absolute magnitude of the transient at discovery is -16.1.
