Christa DeCoursey (University of Arizona), Eiichi Egami (University of Arizona), Marcia Rieke (University of Arizona), Shea DeFour-Remy (University of Arizona), Sanvi Khairnar (University of Arizona), Zheng Ma (University of Arizona), Fengwu Sun (University of Arizona), Christopher Willmer (University of Arizona), Armin Rest (STScI), Justin Pierel (STScI), Mike Engesser (STScI), Kevin Hainline (University of Arizona), Jakob Helton (University of Arizona), Daniel Eisenstein (Harvard/CfA), Brant Robertson (UC Santa Cruz), Benjamin Johnson (Harvard/CfA), Sandro Tacchella (University of Cambridge), Ryan Hausen (Johns Hopkins), Christina Williams (NOIRLab) report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: AT 2023jym
Discoverer internal name: jades-gn-2023q
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 12:37:02.722 (189.261342) DEC = +62:09:47.85 (62.163292)
Discovery date: 2023-04-05 00:00:00.000 (JD=2460039.5)
Remarks: We report the detection of a transient in the GOODS-N field, observed by JWST NIRCam on April 5th, 2023. The candidate does not appear in the GOODS-N HST mosaic images (v2.5) distributed by the Hubble Legacy Fields (HLF) project (https://archive.stsci.edu/prepds/hlf), confirming its transient nature. The transient lies at RA 12:37:02.722, DEC +62:09:47.85, and it has no clear host galaxy. We performed aperture photometry on the transient and measured the following AB magnitudes: F090W = 27.28 ± 0.04, F115W = 26.94 ± 0.02, F150W = 26.94 ± 0.02, F200W = 26.69 ± 0.02, F277W = 27.22 ± 0.02, F335M = 27.45 ± 0.02, F356W = 27.48 ± 0.02, F410M = 27.61 ± 0.06, and F444W = 27.61 ± 0.04.
