Avinash Singh, Jesper Sollerman, Anjasha Gangopadhyay (OKC, SU), Kate Maguire (Trinity College Dublin) report/s a classification of object: SN 2024vcn
Type: SN IRedshift: 0.03326
Remarks: We tentatively classify SN 2024vcn as a peculiar Type Ia/Ic supernova based on follow-up spectra from the NOT. The spectra also reveal relatively narrow width absorption features of Fe II, Si II, and Ca II in the photospheric phase with a blueshift of around 13,000 km/s. The spectra best match Type Ic SN 1994I, and the Type Ia-pec SN 2005hk using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2008) and NGSF (Howell et al. 2005). The source is clearly a SN I, but at present, we can not unambiguously distinguish between a stripped-envelope Type Ic and a bright thermonuclear SN Iax.
